Memorial Glass Pendants
When you have a personal death in the Family that you weren't expecting, it is so hard to think long term. I had about 5 minutes before I had to put my Dog down. My husband had about 24 hours before they decided to unplug his Father. Healing and grieving is such a long and nonlinear process. It's human, and that makes it so wild and complex.
For my 3 year old daughter it took her a while to understand why we dropped our dog, Lola, off at the vet. She didn't understand that she wouldn't be coming back and when she did, she was a box of ashes. As she got older, she started having questions. We've had conversations of where her fur went; how her bones are made of carbon. We talked about how Lola, still lives on in our hearts and memories in our head. We have created a memorial, an Ofrenda, of sorts, but something was missing on this grieving journey.
When I started to play with Stained Glass, the chips, and clippings leftover, I realized I could melt it and turn it into something beautiful. I tried. It didn't work out. I exploded quite a few Evil eyes in the microwave. The coefficiency of the glass didn't match up and the molecules that were suppose to bond them together, in fact made them explode.
In order to understand better I took a class. I ordered the right glass and I started to create. I started to look into ways I could create a memorial in Glass that Resin wouldn't allow. I could put ashes in Resin, but I didn't like the thought of putting the Resin against my skin. The Glass heart and paw print pendant were the solution.
